Remember, remember, the fifth of November. Winterton certainly does. The annual Grand Bonfire and Fireworks is on Thursday 5 November at Winterton Showground, Holmes Lane, DN15 9UF.

Gates open at 4:30pm. The bonfire is lit at 6:30pm, by Annie Fanny, according to the organisers. The fireworks start at 7pm.

There's hot food and drink, a fairground, and a fire and illusion act. Because one giant fire wasn't quite enough. Admission is per car: £20 for a car and everyone in it.

That includes the huge on-site car park. So pack the car properly. Grandma, the kids, the neighbours.

The rules: no sparklers. No alcohol. And please do not park on the roads.

SRN Verdict

Winterton's roads are being resurfaced, and nobody wants to explain that to the council. Wrap up warm. It's Bonfire Night in Lincolnshire, not the Algarve.
