In a plot twist nobody could have written, the Halloween Spooktacular at Eddie Wright Raceway has been moved to... Halloween.

It was meant to happen on Saturday 24 October. Then the forecasts looked grim, so organisers pushed it back a week to Saturday 31 October. Good call, as it turned out. Storm Boelo turned up that weekend and rearranged half the region's trees.

The new details: turnstiles open at 12 noon, the event starts at 2pm, and it should finish between 6pm and 6:30pm. The early start is because the clocks have gone back. Daylight now clocks off before most of us do.

What's on: racing, fireworks with choreographed effects (fireworks with dance moves, basically), a live fire performer, a funfair and family entertainment. Admission is pay on the day, so there are no spectator tickets to rebook. Drivers' bookings and deposits move over automatically.

So: fire, fireworks and stock cars, on Halloween, in Scunthorpe, in the dark. Most towns would call that a risk assessment. We call it Saturday.

SRN Verdict

Eddie Wright Raceway, Normanby Road, Scunthorpe, DN15 8QZ.
